If elected, what are your plans for office?
The impact of the changes in healthcare reform on the profession of dietetics, cost benefit practice and the motivation of members to document outcomes will certainly need to be addressed by the HOD LT. I intend to draw on the following experiences: six years delegate of the international affiliate of ADA, leader of the research network, member of several member-benefits committees, skilled evidence analyst, a practice-based researcher, an educator and a leader of dietetic practitioners in initiating, sharing and collaborating with fellow directors in the development, promotion, and execution of action requiring decisions to advance the standards of dietetic practice.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
As a board and LT member of AODA, I led the move to update AODA's Strategic Plan and align it with the recent ADA Strategic plan. The process to update the affiliate's Strategic Plan and its financial ramifications were presented to and discussed by the Board. The recommendation to engage a consultant was accepted and the full board participated in the process. With the support of the then president and president-elect the work over a year included face-to-face meetings and online communications culminating in a new Strategic Plan for AODA. I was proud to be able to lead the board to fulfill the goal.
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
Leading the development of the program for clinical nutrition at the School of Nutritional Sciences, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, from its inception in 1971 to 2003 is probably the activity I am most proud of. No leader works alone, the team effort is crucial. Assembling the academic team of teachers and researchers, developing courses, initiating the internship, developing and sustaining collaborations with medical institutions and positioning the professional RD as an expert in nutrition and dietetics and an integral member of the health team in Israel are the highlights of my leadership in dietetics.
