If elected, what are your plans for office?

To identify the most well-qualified individuals to serve in key positions during a time when the nutrition & dietetics profession is at the forefront of today's healthcare and public policy arenas. I am also aware from all my previous professional and community volunteer involvement, how important it is to respect what volunteers can do for an organization and how critical it is to identify the correct individual for the job. If elected, I will make sure this happens within ADA by serving as a committed, involved member of it's Nominating Committee.

Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.

When I was Chair of the SCAN DPG I was instrumental in the hiring of the DPG's first Executive Director. This involved directing the Executive Committee search team to create a job description, RFP proposal, launch a nation-wide search, and then coordinate the interview, selection, contract negotiations and hiring for this individual. The entire process was prolonged, time-consuming and stressful. It involved helping the selection team maintain focus, and to reach consensus in spite of our many differences, over a year's time period. Ultimately an Executive Director was hired, and to this day SCAN continues to employ an Executive Director to oversee its operations.

Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.

When I became Chair of the WMDPG during its 3rd year, the original 10 founding Executive Committee members were doing 100% of the work. With WM one of the fasting growing DPGs, and already one of the largest in size, I knew it was critical to determine how to create opportunities and an organizational structure to support greater member involvement. In turn, this would allow the DPG to provide expanded member services & benefits. Under my direction as WM DPG Chair, the EC developed a new 5-year strategic plan; restructured & revised the organizational chart, & more than tripled the number of volunteers in leadership roles. Today, almost 4 years later, this organizational structure continues to provide for an expanding DPG.

Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.

#1: EXPERIENCE: I have over 25 years in local, affiliate & DPG leadership positions which has given me varied knowledge, many contacts, & the skill sets needed on a nominating committee. I also have a respect of relationships, interactions & the future needs of our members & organization. #2: I LISTEN & WORK WELL WITH OTHERS: By doing so, this builds relationships that foster creativity, teamwork and collaboration. I respect others viewpoints & strive to reach group consensus which leads to the best possible outcome. #3: I AM CONSCIENTIOUS & COMMITTED: In whatever I do, I am focused, timely & follow-through. My goal is to exceed/excel beyond what is expected. I promise to do the same if elected to the ADA Nominating Committee.
