If elected, what are your plans for office?
If elected, I will 1) represent the many retired but still professionally committed dietitians who retain membership in ADA; and 2) mentor and share years of ADA knowledge and experience with other HOD delegates.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
I was team leader from 2004 to 2006 for the development of USDA's HealthierUS School Challenge, a voluntary initiative to encourage schools to improve the school nutrition environment. There are now over 1,000 elementary schools who have met the Challenge and are being nationally recognized for their efforts.
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
My most fulfilling leadership experience was the eight years I spent at USDA from 1999 to 2007. I started as 1 dietitian who reported to the Director of Child Nutrition Programs. Before retirement in 2007, I had formed a unit with 5 other dietitians with responsibility for nutrition policy, implementing Child Nutrition Program nutrition standards, and training state agencies in monitoring schools' compliance with nutrition standards.
Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.
1. Experience and leadership in ADA
2. Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
3. Ability to negotiate and compromise
