If elected, what are your plans for office?
If I am elected to serve as a member of the Commission, it is my intention to represent the voice of the "common member". I am not a dietetics professor, director, or manager. Quite simply, I am an "in-the-trenches" clinical dietitian and a 27 year member of our association. I believe that a vote for me would provide a valuable perspective to CDR's discussions regarding professional registration issues and concerns.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
Teamwork and collaboration! When a fellow member of the Oncology Nutrition DPG and I approached our ADA practice team and representatives of the CDR about certification for oncology nutrition RDs--we were told, "your DPG is just too small of a group and seeking certification would be cost prohibitive". However, through careful planning, persistence, and attention to limited financial resources our DPG made it happen. In addtion, working together with members of the ON DPG, CDR's Professional Practice Team and the ADA Practice Team was vital to the success of our efforts to obtain oncology nutrition certification for our members.
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
Serving as ON DPG's Certification Co-Chairman has truly been the most fulfilling and rewarding experience of my professional life. The combined efforts of many dedicated RDs and ADA/CDR staff members resulted in the creation of the oncology nutrition certification for our members and RDs working in cancer Working in a leadership role on this DPG project is what actually motivated me to seek an elected office within the CDR. I have seen firsthand how important CDR is to our dietetic practice.
Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.
1. Passion for my profession and doing what I love to do...dietetics!
2. Determination to see a project through--from its inception to completion.
3. Dedication to the enhancement of our professional practice and most importantly to the well-being of our patients (and community) seeking our nutrition care.
