If elected, what are your plans for office?

If elected, I will consign myself to fully, respectfully, and professionally carrying out the actitivies and commitments inherent in the position to which the electorate entrusted to me. It has always been my firm belief that a professional, regardless of the profession chosen, has an obligation to give to and to strengthen the inner core, and the future, of that profession in a way that is of benefit to both entities. I have endeavored, throughout my career, to be a role model for future credentialed dietetics professionals through my belief in and commitments to life-long learning, as both a learner and an educator.

Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.

A negative patient outcome occurred due to a significant error on the part of a food service worker preparing the patient's enteral tube feeding formula. The error highlighted a substantial weak link in formula preparation. All individuals involved in formula preparation and delivery were brought together to discuss the situation and to identify how the error happened and could be avoided in the future. While I knew what outcome I wanted for this scenario, I listened and learned what barriers existed to impede a postive outcome. Given some guidance and structure, the individuals involved developed a training program, with supervisory oversight, that was implemented and no further negative outcomes occurred.

Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.

My most fulfilling leadership experience was as the Nutrition Services Director in a new community hospital in a cultural setting very different from my own. The challenges of creating, from scratch, a Nutrition Services Department that was charged with the provision of both clinical inpatient services and inpatient, cafeteria, and catering food service operations was an immense responsibility and one of the greatest and most fulfilling learning experiences I have undertaken. The experience was a successful and rewarding one, made so largely because of the camaraderie and collective goal-directed orientation and commitment of the hospital leadership, the Nutrition Services Department personnel, and those we proudly served.

Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.

1. While I have my own thoughts and opinions on a topic, I am a listener and an avid learner and seek the opinions and counsel of others. 2. I have an open, but structured management style. I hold each individual responsible and accountable for their actions. 3. I have a sense of humor and feel that humor, used respectfully and appropriately, can bring people and situations together toward an agreeable goal.
