If elected, what are your plans for office?
As a member of the Nominations Committee I will guide the future of the American Dietetic Association to meet the three major goals of ADA?s Strategic Plan. I will align myself with other ADA members who are committed and willing to work toward those goals also. I will reach out to members as well as leaders of ADA and its member groups to find those who show an interest in serving the profession on the national level. These professionals can reach their potential while ADA meets its goals.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
As the RD on a geriatric healthcare team, I developed the template for the electronic interdisciplinary team patient note. I led the discussion of the different disciplines to complete the patient care plan while actually typing in the comments from each practitioner. I was able after editing to send out the electronic care plan note for co-signatures of all members of the team. This template and process was then adopted by many other units in the facility
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
Being elected president of the Arkansas Dietetic Association was most gratifying as my colleagues put their faith in me with their vote. While this was a challenging time for ADA, activities at the affiliate level were full steam ahead. I was able to answer questons and assure ArDA members that ADA would not ignore member needs, interests and desires. I reminded the members that they were ADA and to continue their efforts to promote the
discipline and profession. Providing the history around certain issues made it easier for ArDA members to see the global picture.
Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.
Having a varied career background provides insight. I've lived and worked in a rural area & a large city and my jobs have been in clinical dietetics, administration, education, a commercial food company and with a food trade association. I'm flexible which is necessary with multi-tasking. I have a wide network of professional colleagues from whom I can solicit input.
