If elected, what are your plans for office?

I believe that CADE needs to better communicate to Program Directors what its expectations are and to provide training to new and continuing Program Directors to ensure their success in the accreditation process. CADE can utilize numerous communication channels to achieve this and I hope to foster development of many tools to facilitate a more effective accreditation process. In addition, CADE needs to work more closely with ADA organizational units whose interests and responsibilities intersect with CADE's, including CDR, the ADA Education Committee and the Dietetic Educators of Practitioners DPG.

Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.

For four years, I served as Football Parking Coordinator for my children's elementary school which is located 5 blocks from the 90,000 seat University of Florida football stadium and has a large campus that holds 450 cars each game day, earning the school $50,000 annually. As Coordinator, I oversaw the reservation system for those who parked at the school and recruitment of grade school teams to control the campus and make sure only those with reserved spots parked on campus. Prior to game days, teams of people had to stripe the field, arrange for police protection, order port-a-potties and sinks and rope off the campus and then another team had to clean up the campus after game day.

Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.

My most fulfilling leadership experiences have been serving as Legislative Network Coordinator (LNC) in Maine and New York. While I was LNC in Maine, the Maine Dietetic Association hired a lobbyist who successfully led us through the process of writing a licensure bill, getting it introduced, advocating for it and seeing it passed. I was LNC in NY during the Clinton health care initiative, a period of great activity by ADA in the legislative process. This was a very exciting time to be in this role and was especially fulfilling when Jose Serrano, a NYS member in the House of Representatives, offered to introduce the MNT act in the House following a visit by NY RDs attending the Public Policy workshop.

Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.

Enthusiasm, commitment and administrative skills. I am an enthusiastic promoter of ADA and encourage my students and colleagues to take active leadership roles in the profession. Throughout my career I have been committed to advancing ADA and the profession and served in leadership roles at district, state and national levels of the profession and in the Dietetic Educators of Practitioners. My enthusiasm and commitment help me to motivate others to contribute to achieving goals. I am a very organized and effective administrator and always complete tasks that I take on well ahead of deadlines. I have always believed that giving to my profession brings opportunities, gifts and friendships that are priceless.
