If elected, what are your plans for office?
Creating more visibility and promoting the potential of Dietetic Technicians as an integral member of the profession is my primary goal. As an At Large Delegate I will 1) solicit input from members
2) actively participate in HOD discussions to communicate member concerns and goals 3) provide regular feedback and updates to members concerning HOD discussions, actions and plans 4) work to strengthen Dietetic Technician visibility and RD/DTR partnerships.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
As Chairperson of the Food/Nutrition Advisory committee for Portland Community College, I extended the DT/DMA programs an additional 5 years. The BOD wanted immediate closure for cost savings. These programs produced well educated food service managers. As a strong advocate for elders living in care communities, I recommended communities hire managers completing these programs. In my experience, educated managers expect and get better quality food, service and choice for residents. I strengthened the committee by recruiting an RD state surveyor, mobilized health care community providers and managers to testify and convince the College Board of the programs value to the health and well-being of our elders. We kept the program 5 more years.
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
Volunteered in a Big Brothers/Big Sisters program to successfully guide a 13 year old to graduate high school. I found working with this at risk teenager very rewarding and our friendship continues to this day. Currently at age 38, Ruth Anne is a loving wife, devoted mother of two young boys, and a loyal friend.
Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.
1) Ability to network and bring people together.
2) Perseverance to support a program or need I am passionate about.
3) Excellent follow-through to get a job done.
