If elected, what are your plans for office?
Provide proactive leadership for the HOD to effectively lead the profession by identifying mega issues and facilitating dialogue to move the profession forward and to insure that members have the tools and resources necessary to meet the needs of their clients/patients as well as for their own professional development.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
As chair of the Stage II DPG Task force, I worked with a representative committee of DPG officers to examine the impact the of the 1st DPG Task Force and to identify current and future needs of DPGs. As a result of surveys and discussions with DPG leaders, we recommended a Town Meeting for DPG Chairs/Chairs-elect during FNCE in Denver. The meeting focused on the topics the DPG leaders requested - sponsorship, DPG HOD representation, social marketing, public policy, working with the practice team (now known as DPG Relations), websites, and budgeting. Round tables on the topics were moderated by members of the committee and ADA staff. The information shared during the dialogues will be shared with all DPG leaders.
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
Each leadership experience builds on the previous experience thus developing skills and confidence as a leader. My current experience as HLT Director has the added benefit of also serving on the ADA Board - double the work and double the personal rewards! I am energized by the HLT and its impact on the profession whereas the Board has the strategic responsibility to guide the Association. The two roles are paramount for keeping us on track and more importantly making tough decisions that move us in exciting new directions. I enjoy being an "entertainer" while leading the House dialogues and I am known to insert some comic relief during a Board meeting. I take both my roles very seriously while managing to have fun.
