If elected, what are your plans for office?
Having been a Dietetic Internship Director I am especially passionate about the ADA's strategic position to develop effective educational programs to further the knowledge and professional growth of our membership. Social media technology including hosting a blog will allow members to contact me and stay updated on issues and positions of the association. I plan to be a highly effective board member that generates innovative ideas and as importantly provides feedback and direction on those ideas presented by others. Leveraging my extensive national and state experiences will allow me to be an immediate contributor as a director-at-large. I am prepared to ask the hard questions and provide accountability of our association to our members.
Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.
I worked very diligently to establish the ADA Clinical Nutrition Management DPG. The formation of the DPG was initially opposed by another DPG and required a great deal of diplomacy and building concensus. This was an opportunity to recognize the unique skill sets of Clinical Nutrition Managers. After a two year process of strategic planning meetings, negotiations and motivating others our dream became a reality!
Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.
In addition to being responsible for the formation of the Clinical Nutrition Management DPG, serving as both the Secretary and Communications Director of the Weight Management DPG has been extremely fulfilling in terms of providing leadership. I have been extremely active in providing leadership and direction for this relatively new DPG which was formed in 2002. It has been rewarding to develop a strategic plan, initiate projects and programs, develop new member benefits and watch the DPG grow into one of the largest DPGs. I enjoy mentoring our members to become involved in leadership positions.
Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.
Leadership: The breadth and strength of the many ADA and industry positions I have held throughout my career evidences my keen leadership skills. I realize that leadership is working toward a shared vision or goals while being readily available to my constituents.
Extensive experience at the national and state level working with GDA, DPG's, ADA and ADAF.
Personal attributes: Creativity , passion, team player, strong networking skills.
These strengths will make me an effective member of the Board of Directors.
