If elected, what are your plans for office?

I would work within the philosophy of shared governance. I would work to help to implement the ADA goals and objectives for the nation's health. I would also work to promote the RD in the Health Care Reform movement. I would also focus on appropriate data for decision making and strive for consensus.

Give an example of how you successfully led a team to accomplish an objective/goal.

As the state leader of Extension Family and Consumer Sciences, I recognized the fact that, several of our Foods and Nutrition staff were not registered dietitians. I began discussions with other state directors around the nation, to find others wanting to be dietitians but needing an alternate route to the profession. I have lead a group to develop a proposal for an Extension Dietetic Internship and submitted it to our USDA national program leaders. The proposal is under review for funding. An application will be submitted to CADE in 2010.

Describe your most fulfilling leadership experience.

As the Assistant Director of Family and Consumer Sciences, I worked with Extension Administration and the financial officers to work within the budget to offer full-time employment with benefits, particularly health insurance and retirement, to low-income women working in an Extension Foods and Nutrition Education program (EFNEP).

Identify 3 of your strengths/skills that make you an ideal candidate.

1. My management and budgeting skills: I manage a multi-million dollar budget. 2. My academic preparation, work experience, and professional development activities: I have attended three ADA Leadership Institutes. 3. Myinterpersonal skills and networking abilities: I have developed numerous associations and relations over the twenty + years of attending ADA/FNCE annual meetings. I attended an historically black college, a Jesuit university, and a land-grant university, expanding my associations. These associations will be beneficial to advocate the vision, mission and goals of the American Dietetic Association.
